Behind The Rework: Tame Impala 'Why Won't You Make Up Your Mind' (Erol Alkan Rework)

Tame Impala 'Why Won't You Make Up Your Mind' (Erol Alkan Rework) taken from his 'Reworks Volume 1' compilation, a track long been out of print and highly sought after on vinyl.
"This rework for Tame Impala proved to be one of the trickiest on the compilation. Rewind back to 2010, I was asked to remix 'I Don't Really Mind' from Innerspeaker, I ended up making a version which was good, it had a nice acid line, a sweet 3 minute Juno synth drone breakdown, and chopped up vocals. I sent it to the label and it was approved a few days later, but in that time it occurred to me that the mix was a little underwhelming, and I could do much better. I tried 2 further versions of 'IDRM' until it became obvious that I needed to remix a different track, I couldn't make the original work in a different (worthwhile) way. I wrote to the band and label, asking if I could take the approved mix back, and switch the song to 'Why Won't You Make Up Your Mind?' as I had an idea of how my rework could sound (Modular People actually used my letter as the press release, I'll dig it out and post it) and thankfully, I managed to make this new version in a day, and it's safe to say that this one was much better than what I gave in first." - Erol Alkan
